Dirty Boot Farm is a specialty cut flower farm moving into its third season. We grow at nearly 7,000 feet with a sometimes volatile weather pattern. We are considered zone 6A but have just over 100 days to grow each season. Our season can range from very dry to hail with intense thunderstorms in the peak of it all.
Due to this we have adapted to growing primarily under tunnels and have been tapped for a NRCS grant which we’ll use to install our second 100′ high tunnel for season three. As we continue to see what grows best in our erratic environment, we have found great success with dahlias, lisianthus, and spectacular snapdragons. This winter we are trialing overwintering of our dahlias in the high tunnel to see if we can have an earlier bloom (and less headache with storage). At the moment we are also looking towards our future and hope to work with NRCS on water collection to aid in the depleting water systems we have here in the Southwest.
